五十嵐大出生于宮城縣的一個港口小鎮(zhèn)，從小由愛他的聾啞父母撫養(yǎng)長大，為母親擔任“翻譯”是他每天日常的一部分。然而，漸漸地，他無法忍受周圍人投向他的異樣目光，和母親之間也產生了隔閡。終于，他在20歲那年離家出走，去了東京…… 導演吳美保2014年的作品《只在那里發(fā)光》曾勇奪當年的《電影旬報》年度十佳第一名，并代表日本參加奧斯卡最佳外語片角逐。之后她一度離開電影制作，本片是她時隔九年的回歸之作，聚焦少數(shù)群體的身份困境與親子間的日常情感。吉澤亮在片中飾演在“有聲”與“無聲”兩個世界之間穿梭、掙扎的主人公，大量無對白的手語表演令人印象深刻。
